About Razed Roof
Razed Roof is an inclusive performing arts group for people with, and without, learning difficulties and disabilities.
We believe that the performing arts provide opportunities to improve the quality of life for everyone involved.
Razed Roof is based at Harlow Playhouse where an inclusive company of up to forty participants work together for over six hours every Thursday with the support of an experienced team of staff.
The company is made up of adults with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities; elders; and young people from mainstream education.
The company provides theatre skills training and opportunities for performing publicly. Building social skills and confidence is an integral part of the work, along with promoting inclusion.
Razed Roof has worked on scripts by established playwrights including Alan Ayckbourn, Judith Johnson, Christian Martin, Philip Ridley, Lucinda Coxon, John Retallack and Anna Furse.
The choice of play is guided by its use of imagery and the potential for movement work.
The script is adapted so that it can be told through words, music and dance
and allows full participation from each individual.
Judith Johnson has also written a play 'Brave New Food' specifically for Razed Roof.
